Sweet tea is a nectar to my southern bee !

Ok tell the truth...you looovvve tea.
Tea can heal, comfort, and get the spirit jivin!
I know most of the people I know are coffee freaks, but I prefer the leaves man.
Tea has been consumed since before Mother Isis. And there is good reason for it.
It has shown through time that tea can actually heal the body and spirit.
Research suggests that women who are tea drinkers are 60% less likely to develp arthirits than those who do not drink tea. If you drink tea for many years there is a higher-bone mineral density in your spine. Drinking tea has even been linked to reducing several types of cancer.
The mixture of plants, herbs and antioxidants does a body good.

"The big class of chemicals in tea are flavonoids — a natural class of antioxidants that are found in many natural plant-derived foods," explains Dr. Kenneth Mukamal

Here is a small list of healing herbs that one can use in their tea!

Health benefits of ingredients put into herbal teas

  • Chamomile: Soothes the stomach, Calms the nerves, Induces sleep, Eases cold symptoms.
  • Cinnaman: Improves circulation, Eases cold symptoms, Relieves stomach upsets, Reduces menstrual cramps, Regulates blood sugar and insulin.
  • Feverfew: anti-pyretic
  • Ginger: Improves circulation, Relieves cold and flu symptoms, Eases stomach cramps and nausea, Reduces menstrual cramps, Regulats blood sugar.
  • Horehound: severe congestion, as it promotes mucous production and soothes the muscles of the bronchus.

  • Raspberry: Antioxident, Eases diarrhea, High in many vitamins and minerals, Menstrual aid.
  • Rosehips:Source of vitamin C, Antioxidant, Prevents bladder infections, Eases headaches.

Another great aspect of tea is the tea pot. When you walk into someones house and they are a tea enthusiast , you can see their style just by looking at their tea pot. Below are some tea pots that inspired me. What does yours look like?

Strange how a teapot can represent at the same time the comforts of solitude and the pleasures of company. ~Author Unknown

Not only does young blood have those amazing new tea pots ( shown below in Stephanie's post) but Young Blood has also received special " Young Blood" mugs with your logo on them. Great for the avid coffee or tea drinker. Young Blood currently has the home grown eco-friendly teas from good4you.

So come in to Young Blood and join us for a cup o tea!

Pour me a spot

Happy Friday, bloggies!

One of my favorite mini weekend adventures is taking day trips and discovering new places. Last weekend, a girlfriend and I drove up to Athens to watch a friend's dance performance and hang out for music and arts festivals going on throughout the town, and discovered some cool doo-dads that I'd like to share with you. We also ate on the porch of this amazing byob cantina-style restaurant called Cali n Tito's (highly recommend the veggie cuban sandwich).

A couple enjoying their dinner at Cali n Tito's (unaware of my creepin' on them and taking a photo). Below is some of the precious pottery for sale at King's. Many of the artists are UGA grads from the art program, and they were all pretty cool and laid back.

There was also another artist who was selling precious soy candles poured into vintage teacups and saucers. Perfect for a garden party or to light on the porch in the evenings. I saw these teapots by Jeanette Risco in Young Blood this morning and they reminded me of them.

Have a great weekend and stop in and see us!

SNAIL MAIL

Hey! Jen here. One of my favorite things is getting a letter in the mail... but you gotta give to receive! When's the last time you sent a little something out? We got lots here to choose from, so come get one and get it going!

This card by Pearl Marmalade seriously is every variety of wonderful. Luckily, I have some pretty wonderful people in my life so I've gotten to send it quite a few times :)

Reba of Rarrar Press just kills it every time. Every single time.

Gold Teeth Brooklyn is new to Young Blood. I cannot seem to get away from images of teeth and this card is definitely at the top of my list of ones I wanna send next.

And you could send this one made by La Familia Green after your summer travels which involves crashing on friend's couches. You don't have to pay for a hotel, so duh, send a thank you card!

Is it seriously Monday again?!

Last week was CRAAAAZY!!!!! It was one of those weeks that passes you buy at this weird fast but long and drawn out slow way. As Haley said in her blog entry, Dodekapus' Collective Conscious launch show/party/circus/craziness was this past Friday. I worked with the production of the show. The main Dodekapus family was pulling 15 hour days setting up for the show. Everyone worked so hard and we put on such an amazing show!

Thankfully working at Young Blood has given me a lot of experience with Art openings. Thanks ladies :D

Now is the time for me to get geared up for finals. Sigh. Summer weather has already descended upon the south so now I'm dreaming about what I want to do and accomplish this summer.

My boyfriend and I want to go to Costa Rica. He is an adventurer and wants to camp out in the jungle. I on the other hand just want to play in the jungle, explore and sleep in a bed. I think I want to learn how to surf! I spent the majority of my childhood growing up in Hilo, Hawaii but never learned how to surf. My parents were more encouraging to academic pursuits.

So this summer, I will learn how to surf!!!!!

Hopefully this won't happen to me.

LOVE YA!
Annette

Sunday thoughts

Today at YB we've got a lot going on -lots of visitors and Elizabeth, one of our lovely interns, is packing up artwork from some of our past shows and Stephanie is up front managing some inventory-I decided to take a break from banking land and work on my Sunday blog entry-Things are starting to gear up around here since it's been so nice outside.

Our friend Sam Parker who opened our new location in June of 2008, with his solo work, just had his final thesis show at Georgia State and also just had an opening last night with 2 other local artists-you should set up an appointment with those nice folks at Kibbee Gallery and check out the show! Here's an interview in the loafing for Sam's show.

The next show at Kibbee is on May 1st and is the same night as our next opening with "Disaster Planning" with local artists Steven Dixey, Kenn Twofour & Stenvik Mostrom- walk on over and see work by Kelly Cloninger, Pam Rogers and Julia Kubica called "Sprout".

I got to try my first King of Pops last weekend and it was a dreamy Lemon/Lavendar-he's been setting up on the weekends (12-8) until his shop opens on the corner of North and N. Highland -look for the umbrella-or you can also get them at Irwin Street Market .

For all you crafty/artsy folks out there who are ready to work on their business there is a conference coming up in Seattle this summer-sounds awesome! Somebody wanna buy me a plane ticket out there?! thought so...

It's the Creative Conference of Entrepreneurs
August 13th-15th.

It's bringing together the professional worlds of independent creative entrepreneurs!

Birthing the Dodekababie!

Hey Doodles!

Haley Here,

I hope everyone’s weekend is going superb. Just wanted to share a few things.

Last night the Atlanta art Cooperative DODEKAPUS!!!! Had their “Collective Concious Event”. And man….was it MIND BLOWING! There was a bike race, interactive art, circus performers, thai food, bands and pretty much a clusterbunch of mad art! It was an emotionally charged spiritual celebration of every person that put their energy and love into that building. I am honestly proud to be a part of the dodeka fam. Below are some pictures from our family and the event.

Just like all the people in Dodekapus inspire me everyday I get to go to my job, Young Blood, where hundreds of artists also inspire me with their amazing work. I am so stoked on the artists we have here. Here are some that we have at Young Blood that I am in love with !
