Gawrsh!

...It's already the 4th of July weekend! I'm up in Cumming with the boyfriend's family and we are so prepared for Sunday...too prepared perhaps. Don't worry, for the ridiculous volume of fireworks we possess, they're also good friends with the police captain who happens to be off-duty and lighting them off with us that evening.
YB loves Atlanta artist R. Land.

Feeling patriotic? One great way to support the economy is to support local businesses. A few of my favorite local Atlanta spots would have to be: Starlight Six Drive-In (just discovered this place with a girlfriend and had a great time. Word to the wise, get there a wee bit early, and when you find a space don't park outside the lines like a douche), Papi's Cuban Cuisine in midtown (great prices, great Cuban sandwiches and yucca fries), Stefan's Vintage, which is like a fun little treasure hunt in L5P, and Criminal Records (obviously a music/record store, also located in L5P).

I'd have to say, though, with an admitted bias, that Young Blood is by far my favorite local Atlanta business. Oh yeah! And don't forget one of our favorites, King of Pops!

Stay safe this weekend (don't drink and drive), but not too safe (play with fire)!
Until next week,
Steph

Sunday thoughts

Today at YB we've got a lot going on -lots of visitors and Elizabeth, one of our lovely interns, is packing up artwork from some of our past shows and Stephanie is up front managing some inventory-I decided to take a break from banking land and work on my Sunday blog entry-Things are starting to gear up around here since it's been so nice outside.

Our friend Sam Parker who opened our new location in June of 2008, with his solo work, just had his final thesis show at Georgia State and also just had an opening last night with 2 other local artists-you should set up an appointment with those nice folks at Kibbee Gallery and check out the show! Here's an interview in the loafing for Sam's show.

The next show at Kibbee is on May 1st and is the same night as our next opening with "Disaster Planning" with local artists Steven Dixey, Kenn Twofour & Stenvik Mostrom- walk on over and see work by Kelly Cloninger, Pam Rogers and Julia Kubica called "Sprout".

I got to try my first King of Pops last weekend and it was a dreamy Lemon/Lavendar-he's been setting up on the weekends (12-8) until his shop opens on the corner of North and N. Highland -look for the umbrella-or you can also get them at Irwin Street Market .

For all you crafty/artsy folks out there who are ready to work on their business there is a conference coming up in Seattle this summer-sounds awesome! Somebody wanna buy me a plane ticket out there?! thought so...

It's the Creative Conference of Entrepreneurs
August 13th-15th.

It's bringing together the professional worlds of independent creative entrepreneurs!

Good gawd allmighty, it's Spring tiiiiime!!!!!!!!

This has by far been one of the longest, most painful winters ever! I try and try to chin up and enjoy it but cold, snow and drizzling rain just ain't my thing! This is the first week in the high 70s and 80s. Atlanta's beloved trees are blooming and people are reclaiming their walks, bike rides,
and restaurant patios.

Some of my favorite Atlanta Spring things to do:
1. Eat Yoforia (and King of Pops popsicles are finally popping up around the city!)

2. Go to one of our many farmer's markets (went to Buford Hwy one last weekend!)

3. Drink on a patio! (Just saw someone drinking one of the locally famous grapefruit rosewater martinis next door at Cafe di Sol.

4. Gardening - time to put in your tomatoes, y'all!

5. Spring cleaning and purging - it's time to remove the
clutter from my life and that includes everything from the piles stacked up on my desk to the negatives nellies in my life - yep, I said it! Make my life better or get out the way!

6. Shop - The season's bright colored dresses, handbags, and jewelry are popping up everywhere I look and I want! I want!

And now, some of my favorite new designs in the shop for Spring!

Push Me Pull You Designs - We have tons of new prints, tee shirts, housewares and cards!

We have tons of new items rolling in for Spring. Come say hi and tell us what ya think!

xo,
Maggie
