LOVE YOUR MOTHER...

Happy Mother's day to all the mommas out there... I spent the afternoon with my mom and sis and her family out in the country today and it was such a nice crisp springy day to be outside feeding the horses, donkey and goat. I even got John (my BF) to feed the horses, he was really interested in petting the donkey "Mac", though he wasn't haven' it. My mom has been a really big support for Maggie and I from the birth of Young Blood and has always encouraged us-and we love her for that.

mom and pop frances (Amelie and (RIP) Bruno)

Frances (aka Frankie) one of my babies birthday is coming up and it made me thing of her momma-and even though she tried to eat her the last time they met I know Frances loves her deep down.

SO to all the mommas out there WE LOVE YOU!!!

beach baby

happy saturday!
it's rebecca, the new ybg lady!
i'm super excited to be here!

last weekend i got to spend a long weekend in amelia island, florida which was a seriously needed trip after another semester. the annual shrimp festival was in town and there were so many cool antique booths with tons of treasures to be found! after such an exhausting(!) treasure hunt, it was time to soak up some rays on the beach (spf 70, thank you very much!). nothing is more relaxing to me than a nice warm sit on the sand. the sounds of gulls and that crisp salty air...ahhhhh its not hard to be inspired by something as beautiful as the ocean, and taking a look around the shop i notice some of our artists got some ocean love too! check it...

i am totally in love with this bivalve necklace by erica weiner.

and this new squid grid bowl by megan ramsey (from atlanta!) is perfect for an apres sun bowl of ice cream!!

sometimes the sea breeze gets a little pushy and these hair pieces are perfect for keeping it classy while lounging or strolling on the sand! front: painting the roses red bow by blue eyed freckle (atlanta!) back: ivory ruffle headband by monkey & squirrel

these tiles from pacific blue tile seriously make me want to cook just so i can use a hot plate! (and the hus would probably appreciate anything that would get me in the kitchen more often)

these nautical looking wallets by ducttuff are super cool, dudes.

for the petit bambinos, an adorable little forest friends tee, by too many suitors is perfect cover from the sun.

and ok, so this isn't exactly sea-ish...but this dude looks a little windswept...maybe from sailing?? and "vacation"! for real these journals from ex libris are supa-dupa.

lastly, if you can't exactly get away, do yourself a favor and shower off with some handcrafted soap by sudstress. the healing waters and emerald isle bars are more than capable of putting the ocean bug at bay until you can get there.

side note: there's still time to grab your mama something special! come on in-she did hatch you after all!

talk soon!

Happy Friday guys!

This is my last post before heading "down under" to visit my friend in Sydney for 10 days. I'm so excited (and unpacked/prepared) I don't know what to do with myself. It's going to be something like a 7+hour layover in LAX, and do you know what that means? Not that I'm going to be chilling with my luggage for that long (not sure what to do with it yet though); I'm going to take a cab to the beach and get a burger from In n' Out. I've been talked a big game about this place, so I'm expecting Vortex quality moo.

My sister's senior project (all seniors at her high school are required to choose one) was to get her private pilot's license and fly solo. She's graduating soon, and I'm definitely getting her something from Young Blood. I'd post a pic of that too, but she might read this!

My little gift to myself is one of these babies to keep my passport and tickets in, we've got a bunch of wallets and checkbooks from Dumb Kid Designs so drop by and check 'em out! See ya later, alligators!

Tried and True!

Anyone going to be in Orlando this weekend? If so visit some our Young Blood favorites and friends at the Tried and True Tattoo Expo! There will be seminars, contests, vendors.. and of course, plenty of tattoos to be had.

Be sure to say hi to:

Danielle Distefano of Only You Tattoo

Most of the boys from Liberty Tattoo

Jason Kelly, Phil Colvin, and Stenvik Mostrom of Memorial Tattoo

Russ Abbott of Ink and Dagger Tattoo

We can't say enough good things about these people! They've supported us throughout the years and we've been sure to support them in any way we can too! We'd certainly be there in person if we could!

Where would the world be without Mamas?

I guess there would be no world!

Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mom's out there. I don't see how you do it.

Some great memories I have of my mom:

1. Shucking corn in the garden.

2. Teaching me how to drive a stick in our doo doo brown VW Rabbit.

3. Camping throughout Tennessee and Kentucky.

4. Playing the piano in our trailer.

5. Giving me and my sister perms then we'd give her one.

6. Taking a road trip together to Florida - she let me put on her lipstick and pretend I was grown.

7. Teaching me how to properly wash dishes, clean house, and string beans.

8. Being the first woman I knew to ride a motorcycle.

9. Teaching me how to work hard for what I want.

10. Setting an example of how fun it can be to get older. She is the most interesting and interested cook, gardener, yard saler, thrift store shopper, nature lover, card and dice player, crafter, musician, loving Mother I know!

Here are some super sweet things we have in the shop this week for Mothers!

Love you, Mama!

Last post?

I think this is my last Young Blood post guys. I have been working as an intern since last May. I was super impressed with the first show I worked, Skate or Die IV. I remember I was blown away buy how many people were there, and how successful the show was.

As you might know, this May was our Steven Dixey, Stenvik Mostrom and Kenn TwoFour show. Back in May for Skate or Die it was the first time I was introduced to the work of afore mentioned artists.

Here were their submissions:
Stenvik Mostrom

Kenn TwoFour

Steven Dixey

Gotta say it was this work definitely stayed in my head. You gotta admit this is some good art! You should come by and check out their show then!!!!!

I was really glad I worked this internship. The more I worked with Kelly and Maggie and Jen the more I got to understand their personalities and got to see the drive and passion they have for the gallery and boutique.

You guys have been a very positive influence in my life over the last year and I'm happy for it. Thanks for all the fun times!!

LOVE YA-
Annette :]

There, she runs Etsy's blog, Storque, developing content relating to the handmade lifestyle, and coordinates events that highlight the Etsy community of artisans.

Faythe Levine is a prominent figure in the DIY indie craft movement and an artist herself. Her work was featured on HGTV's That's Clever, and inspired her to open Paper Boat Boutique Gallery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is the founder of the popular Midwest craft fair, Art vs. Craft, and the director and producer of the documentary film Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft and Design.

Illustrator and designer Heather Ross draws upon her own self-described "rural and unsupervised" childhood to create otherworldly designs and illustrations. Her whimsical drawings appear on everything from textiles and clothing to surfboards and stationery, and her book, Weekend Sewing, inspires do-it-yourself attitude with sentimental style. Ross also stays busy with her blog, "Weekend by Heather Ross."
