Books!

Personally, one of my favorite things here at Young Blood is our book section. It's seriously so much fun picking out new books to order and I always get so excited when they come in.. it's like Christmas.. except not presents for me, presents for me to look at :)

Here's a few new ones we got in!

Other People's Love Letters by Bill Shapiro... Okay, everyone likes to be snoopy sometimes.. and here's your chance to do it! Maybe it'll even give you a little confidence to send your dreamboat one!

Remember: A Seasonal Record by Nikki McClure. Okay this amazing lady makes all these images out of freaking cutting paper with an exacto.. WHAT? Not only are the pictures incredible to look at, you get to record memories, ideas, plans, and other goodness.

Relics and Reliquaries by Jeffrey Vallance. Jeffrey is an obsessive collector of relics and has been since his childhood. In 1971, he decided to start incorporating his collection into his artwork. He says his process of accumulating these treasures is lifelong.. but for now here's a book documenting just a small portion of this project!

Fix It, Make It, Grow It, Bake It by Billee Sharp! Who doesn't need a book where you can learn how to cook a healthy meal for pennies..including homemade yogurt (!!!), clean your house with lemon and lavender, cure a soaking wet cell phone, and tips for indoor gardening! Shoot, I totally didn't know clove oil can cure a toothache!

Get your reading glasses on!

Get Down in the Dirty with the Asian Cajuns!

If you haven't heard of the Asian Cajuns it's high time you did!

Sisters Cath and Lar never cease to suck me right into their fashion and lifestyle blog, AsianCajuns.com. It begins with the visual stimulation then their funny and awesome writing styles get me every time. Not to mention they have STYLE FOR MILES! These ladies are addicted to fashion and make addiction look pretty dang fun.

From their "About" section:

We’re twins. Part Chinese, part French Cajun (and a mix of a few other things thrown in). We have a love of style, art, design, music, fashion, literature, and food. We’re originally from a suburb of D.C. (the Maryland side), but now consider Decatur/Atlanta our home. We love our new city and hope to highlight some of the greatness of ATL and our own views on fashion and design.

They're super supportive of local biz and are full of ideas of cool things to do too! And of course they look crazy cute while doing it.

Let's start with this fetching photo of Cathy in a Young Blood tank (hee hee).

And how adorable is Lar??

I'm not the only smitten kitten. Check out the Awards and Mentions page.

Thank you to The Asian Cajuns for contributing their style and finesse to Atlanta!

Maggie

ADOPT A NEW FRIEND!

Next Sunday (June 13th ) from 12-5 pm ARF 2010! is happening at Wills Park in Alpharetta.
This is a huge animal rescue fair with adoptions of all kinds of animals, demonstrations and pet vendors. It's free and they would love it if you brought a bag of pet food to donate to a pet soup kitchen that helps familys who can't afford food for their pets during hard economic times.

With rescue groups from all surrounding southern states you're sure to find your new BFF.

The ladies here at YB are big animal lovers and adopted our own shop cat Jolene from the
Fulton County Animal Services. I plan to be there with my two fosters (Brownie and Big Mamma) so stop by and say hello and bring home a new friend! You can also come by
YB and check out our dog/kitty dishes from artist Jeanette Risco and buy some for your new friend! xo Kelly

Tre' Magnifique

It's bikini season, and I just wanted to tell you ladies (and lads, but you have less of an issue with this) that you are lovely. I don't even know where to begin about the standards we, both the media and individually, place as to what beauty is and is not, so I won't even go there. Call me an exhibitionist, but I've learned that rather than hiding my body in layers like I do all winter, wearing little jumpers and dresses, or lounging around in a cover-up tends to leave me feeling better, and not due to an abundance of confidence on my part. Maybe it's just the sun exposure.

The ever classy Grace Kelly at the beach.

Our show opening tomorrow night features female artists whose work in this exhibit, while certainly not limited to female audiences, mostly portrays women in different styles and attitudes unique to the artist. You'll have to check out the show yourself, but the six fantastic artists who contributed to this event include Megan Kimber, Daisy Winfrey, Lesley Reppeteaux, Merrilee Challiss, Chrystal Chan and Jennifer Davis.

And if you really want to get sexy, Minette Magnifique in collaboration with Pin Up Girl Cosmetics has a burlesque show opening Saturday, June 19th at Ziba's in Old Fourth Ward. I've been to a previous show these ladies have done, and they're super talented and just as gorgeous.

Come check it out, and sip some champagne with the Young Blood ladies! Now go forth and feel beautiful today.

Lemme Plan Your Weekend!

Everyone in Atlanta- This weekend is crammed with stuff to do! Better check everything out! This is what I'll be doing..

Friday!

The 14th Annual Atlanta Tattoo Arts Festival put on by Sacred Heart Tattoo. Come hang out and keep all our friends at local shops company! There will be vendors, contests, seminars, and of course lots of tattooing! AND rumor is that Ink and Dagger's Wheel of Destiny is going to be making an appearance..

Saturday!

To start Saturday off EVERYONE should check out Artlantis put on by our buds at Beep Beep Gallery. Last year sure was fun and this year I'm sure is going to knock last's out of the park. There's going to be local yummy food, games, live music, and tons of Atlanta's finest in the vendor and artist sections! Plus it's totally free! And check this out- R.Land designed their logo this year!
And to make things SUPER convenient.. Artlantis is being held pretty much right across the street from Young Blood! SO when you're done there you can come right over and check out our opening that's from 7-10 and the ladies can sip on some free champagne! The show is all up and lemme tell you- it looks freaking rad. I'm excited!!

Sunday!

Sunday I'll be working for R.Land at his booth at the Rock and Roll Monster Bash.. Held at none other than the Starlight Drive In! I've never been to the Monster Bash before, but I hear it's tons of fun.. Movies, Bands, Vendors, Burlesque, Hot Rods, Monsters..Count me in!

Bring it on, weekend!

Six women artists come together
at Young Blood Gallery

Coming from Savannah, Birmingham, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Portland, Oregon!

Artists Jennifer Davis, Megan Kimber, Chrystal Chan, Lesley Reppeteaux, Merrilee Challiss and Daisy Winfrey have created a collaborative show with similar visions, while representing their unique styles through personal pieces. Each artist brings their work to life through the use of different materials, all with a theme of the female form in mind.

“The purpose of this show was to bring together a show consisting solely of female artists whose work relates well to each other in terms of painted figurative subject matter and their sense of commentary on individual existence,” says Megan Kimber.

“People will be able to go to this show and feel like they have just watched a bunch of little tasty movies or read some kick ass short stories.”

The show opens at Young Blood on June 5th at 7:00 pm with beer, wine, free champagne cocktails for the ladies and music by DJ Suzy Moran. The show will run through the 27th of the month.
